Nexus Rope is a new shibari studio in Gloucester, run by Amelia Roslyn and Sjamboku. We started running our first events almost 15 years ago, including a bondage and rope evening. Over the years we have dreamed of having our own venue, rather than renting space for short periods or teaching from our home rope studio, and the time has finally come.
We’re now ready to welcome you to Nexus Rope, our shibari studio in Gloucester. Here we have created a beautiful space for the rope community where we will be running a variety of rope events including peer ropes, parties and workshops. The space will improve as we go, but it already has:
- 18 hard points (typically set up as 10 bamboo, 5 rings, 3 hashira (wooden columns))
- A large fully matted area with thick, comfortable mats for floor work, suspension and teaching
- Comfortable seating options for those not tying
- Boards to use if you’re looking for people to tie with, or have something you want to learn/teach
- Natural light, soft lighting and mood lighting options
- Resources to help your rope learning journey, including a (entirely optional) Foundation Skills syllabus and more
- A social room where you can watch what’s going on in the main studio
- Free tea, coffee, water, squash and biscuits/sweets
- A Gloucester city centre location with many close food options
- Free parking
Unfortunately the venue is not wheelchair accessible – there is a short walk from the car park down an alleyway with no nearby disabled car parking spaces and access is up an industrial staircase to the first floor. If you have any access questions please contact us – we will do what we can to help, but this is a converted c19th industrial site. The unit itself is on a single level. There is some social seating available. We avoid putting on the overhead lights and have natural and soft/mood lighting depending on the event. The toilet is across a hallway shared by other businesses so you do need to dress in a vanilla appropriate way before you go to the toilet.
If you have any questions or comments please get in touch, we’re looking forward to welcoming you to Nexus!
